Spybot Search and Destroy
 Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware of
all different kinds (dialers, loggers, trojans,
user tracks) from your computer. Blocks ActiveX downloads, tracking
cookies and other threats. Scans for over 38,000 objects using detection
definitions that are updated frequently.
Provides detailed information about found problems.
 How
to use Spybot Search and Destroy
The first time you install Spybot Search and Destroy,
the program will assist you with a wizard. When prompted to check
for updates, do so and download any new updates. Also immunize the
system when prompted.
Using Spybot Search and Destroy on a routine basis, you
should always first click Update on the left, and
then Search for Updates. Click Download Updates to download any new
updates.
After checking for any new updates, click Search &
Destroy on the left.
Then, click:
 Check for
Problems.
The program will then proceed to scan your computer
and list everything it finds.  Be patient. It may take some
time to scan your whole PC. In most cases you can continue working
while the scan proceeds.
When the scan is complete, the program will say how
many problems found at the bottom with the time it took to do the scan.
It will also list all the problems it found. Review the items it
found if you'd like. Those that have the check next to them will be
removed when you click "Fix selected problems". When you
click "Fix selected problems", the program will attempt to remove all the
items it founds and listed as problems. Those that are removed will be
indicated as removed with a green check  .
If some problems could not be fixed, it will let you
know and ask you if you want Spybot Search and
Destroy to try to remove them automatically when the computer is rebooted.
| Spybot S&D Tips
 Every
time you use Spybot Search and Destroy, click update on the left in
the program, and then Search for Updates. Click Download
Updates to download any new updates. Then scan your computer.
This will ensure you have the latest updates available.
Periodically click Immunize on the left in the
program. This will help to prevent new infections of certain
spyware programs.
You can cause Spybot S&D to autorun before loading your Windows profile
by inserting the following into your Windows registry in the following
registry location (for more on navigating and editing the registry,
see this
page):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
Right-click in the white area on
the right. Click New, String Value. Give it a Name like "S&D"
in this case.
Right-click on the new entry and
choose "Modify".
Type of copy, paste the following into the Value
Data field:
"C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SpybotSD.exe" /autocheck
Click OK and close the registry. Reboot
your PC and when the PC starts, Spybot Search and Destroy will load
before your profile loads and will have a better attempt at removing
stubborn Spyware. |
